Revelation 3:14-22 

14 “Write this letter to the leader of the church in Laodicea: “This message is from the one who stands firm, the faithful and true Witness of all that is or was or evermore shall be,* the primeval source of God’s creation: 15 “I know you well—you are neither hot nor cold; I wish you were one or the other! 16 But since you are merely lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth! 17 “You say, ‘I am rich, with everything I want; I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that spiritually you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. 18 “My advice to you is to buy pure gold from me, gold purified by fire—only then will you truly be rich. And to purchase from me white garments, clean and pure, so you won’t be naked and ashamed; and to get medicine from me to heal your eyes and give you back your sight. 19 I continually discipline and punish everyone I love; so I must punish you unless you turn from your indifference and become enthusiastic about the things of God. 20 “Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me. 21 I will let everyone who conquers sit beside me on my throne, just as I took my place with my Father on his throne when I had conquered. 22 Let those who can hear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.”

The Laodicean church thought it was warm , rich , respected and enterprising , but Jesus found warm , poor, blind and naked . This church was totally lost . He had missed the right path. His story appears in the book of Revelation chapter 3 verses 14 to 22. Through a strong message , Jesus Christ reveals the sad spiritual condition of the church .

Revelation 3:14 says, ” And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation , says this ”
The apostle John received this message from Jesus Christ , to be handed over to the angel of the church in Laodicea , who is none other than one of the pastors or elders of this church , who in turn was responsible to communicate this message to the congregation Laodicea.

The city of Laodicea was located about 144 miles east of Ephesus and 72 miles south east of Philadelphia. It was an important city for its banking business, the pharmaceutical industry , because there eye drops became very famous for eye treatment for its textile industry and it produced . The people of Laodicea was rich , to be always well dressed and had a vision 20 out of 20 .
The sender appears as the Amen . This means he is faithfulness and truth incarnate . Which ensures full compliance with the promises of God. In addition he is the faithful and true witness . Nobody like him to present to the Father, and no one like him to present things as they are, not as they seem. It is also the beginning of the creation of God. This does not mean what they mean some false sects who deny the deity of Christ when they say he is the first to be created by God. What it means is that Jesus Christ is the cause that resulted in an effect, the creation of all that exists .

Then Jesus turns to assess the Laodicean church .

• The reality of the church of Laodicea.

Revelation 3:15-17 says: ” I know thy works , that thou art neither cold nor hot . Wish you were cold or hot ! But because thou art lukewarm , and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, have become wealthy , and have need of nothing : and knowest not that thou art wretched , miserable, poor , blind and naked. ”
Jesus Christ has assessed the spiritual condition of the church of Laodicea and has basically found four serious problems. The reality of this church was more than enough to make a frontal claim. There was nothing to praise in this church.
1. It was a church that had lost its vigor. It was a lukewarm church . Laodicea was near Hierapolis thermal springs with very warm water . And Laodicea near Colossae was famous for the cold streams descending from the mountains . But Laodicea received water through an aqueduct , so that user came to the tibia . Visitors who were not aware of this, tested the water in Laodicea and threw his mouth, because it was warm . The church of Laodicea was not cold, not openly rejected Christ , but it was not warm, did not have that fervor towards the person of Christ, but it was warm , composed of hypocrites who professed lip service to know Christ , but actually were not him. People so nauseous to Christ. So the vomit from his mouth and the warm water in Laodicea was thrown from his mouth.
Two . Besides losing its vigor, the Laodicean church had lost its value. I thought it was a rich church and lacked nothing . But in the eyes of God was unhappy , miserable and poor. Wealth was single material , external only , because deep down , in the spiritual were in extreme poverty.
Three . Besides losing its force and value, the Laodicean church lost its vision. They thought they saw everything clear, but Jesus says they are blind. Blind to his own spiritual condition , blind to what God wanted from them , blind to their own sin. This church lost its vigor, his courage, his vision and finally her dress.
April . They thought they were always well dressed , but Jesus tells them that they were naked . Justice naked , nude holiness. Oh , how this church is like most churches today . Churches totally lost and worse, did not even realize it .

But back to the message to the church in Laodicea.

• Recommendation .
Revelation 3:18-20 says , “Therefore I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich , and white clothes to wear , and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear , and anoint thine eyes with eye salve , that you see. I rebuke and chasten I love, Therefore be zealous and repent . Behold, I stand at the door and knock . If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me ”

This is the recommendation of Jesus Christ for this warm , poor, blind and naked church. In such a church , Jesus Christ can not be inside , so he looks out the door. Since there is already recommending not to the church but to particular individuals within it.
Ask the people of Laodicea were not killed accumulating money but priceless acquire the finest gold symbolizing salvation in Christ . Ask the people of Laodicea is not buying the best clothes kill the market, but without price gain Christ the white raiment that symbolize the righteousness of God in them that are his . This is the only way to stop being naked spiritually speaking. Ask people not to be killed Laodicea buying eye drops for his eyes, but without price gain of Jesus Christ as an eye drop that really make them see spiritual things. If people in Laodicea ignores the recommendation of Jesus Christ , if they repent and become true believers , will have to face him to be reprimanded and punished. From the door of this church, because it can not be in, Jesus Christ makes an invitation to some to open the door of your heart and let go . Then Jesus will commune with them and when someone is invited to dinner at a house.

• The reward for the church of Laodicea.

Revelation 3:21-22 says: ” To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame , and am set down with my Father in his throne. He who has an ear , let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches . ”
The winners are genuine believers who opened the door of his heart to Jesus Christ . They will share the privilege and authority that Christ enjoys reign with him. The period of the church of Laodicea describes the spiritual condition of the church today, when the coming of Christ is near the clouds to rapture those who are in truth from him . It will be a church where Jesus Christ is outside the door. A church that does not see his spiritual poverty and nakedness . A totally worldly church . Love of the world and the love of Christ can never live together . Christ or the world should be out the door. As this church loved the world , Christ is still outside the door. The church has left the world in Christ outside.
